Lawn Aeration Service
Professional Aeration Service
We offer professional core aeration for turfgrass areas of your landscape. Turf can suffer from soil compaction that makes it harder for the roots to “breathe” and to get the nutrients they need. This aeration service is available for our regular maintenance plan clients and also to those without one of our service plans, who care for their own landscape maintenance (or use another lawn care company).
Below we have tried to answer any questions you may have about our aeration service and why it would possibly be a good thing for your turfgrass. Some properties may need more TLC than others and we try to adapt any of our services to each landscape.
Note: For us to provide aeration services, we require that we mark the irrigation system (if one exists on the property). Marking the property is an additional charge. We also require homeowner marking of any buried hazards (like dog fence wire, landscape lighting wire, etc.). Ninja Lawns, nor the operator, shall be responsible for any damage to property, pipes, wires, lines, cables, etc. (whether marked or unmarked).
Aeration of Turfgrass Areas
A few questions answered here about our aeration services. (For general questions about why we aerate & the benefits to the turf, get some answers here.)
What is Lawn Aeration?
Lawn aeration is a process in which the surface of the soil is punctured and cores are removed to allow the soil to breathe and to deliver nutrients to the roots of the plants (in our case, the turfgrass). There are also drainage benefits in most areas.
The process can be accomplished manually or mechanically by the use of a motorized aerator which is specially designed for this purpose. We offer aeration services using a specialized Professional Ride-On Aerator that allows us to provide excellent results on a variety of soil conditions.
Hope that helps. If you are looking for a more in-depth answer, simply Get In Touch.
Do You Only Offer Core Aeration?
Great question. The short answer would be, “yes”.
Now for the long answer…
Since any equipment having solid tines or spikes should NOT be mistaken for turf aerating equipment. Turf aerators will always remove a core from the soil to allow for the many benefits to the turf. On the other hand, solid tine spikers do not. These spikers actually increase soil compaction. Read more here.
Hope that helps. If you are looking for year-round service, check out our Lawn Services page or simply Get In Touch.
When Should We Aerate?
That’s a great question.
We typically recommend the spring or fall seasons for aeration. Remembering that the goal is to allow for the turf to thrive and if we believe that compacted soil is hindering us from reaching that goal, we may suggest aeration during the summer.

Will You Fertilize After Aerating?
-
That’s a great question.
Short answer is: No (and Maybe)
Long Answer:
We do offer fertilization services and would be glad to serve you in this area, but a fertization is not automatically included (or quoted) in the aeration service. Some folks would like to have us provide fertilizer and some folks want to handle that part themselves.
If it is desired, we can apply a professional granular or liquid fertilizer during the same visit.
Hope that helps. If you are looking for a more in-depth answer, simply Get In Touch.
Why Inspect/Mark My Irrigation System?
That’s a great question.
Short answer is: So that we can try to be sure ALL the irrigation heads and property hazards are marked for the operator to avoid.
Long Answer:
We would desire to inspect the entire system prior to service, but sometimes that isn’t required. In requiring that we mark the property before we provide aeration services, we accomplish several things for both you and us:
1. We can try to be sure all irrigation heads are marked.
2. We can identify visually damaged system areas prior to us servicing property.
3. We can be sure any other visible hazards are identified to protect your property, our equipment and the operator.
4. If you elect an inspection, we can help your overall expense by providing a professional inspection of your system prior to you needing to use it, without an additional property visit charge.
If it is desired, we can schedule a return visit to address issues discovered with the irrigation system, however that would be a separate service.
